Bungalow fire

Crews were called to a bungalow fire in Canvey Island this morning. 

On arrival firefighters reported that the property was completely alight and did a good job in containing the fire and stopping it spreading to any other properties. Unfortunately the bungalow has been completely destroyed.

Following a fire investigation the cause has been recorded as accidental. 

Ship fire

Firefighters have been working to extinguish a large fire on a ship in Tilbury Docks. 

Six crews were called to the scene at 5:43pm and on arrival reported that approximately 5,000 tonnes of scrap metal was alight on the ship. 

The fire was contained to the ship’s hold and firefighters have been working alongside the ship’s crew and site staff to remove the metal from the hold and extinguish the fire in sections. 

The fire has been extinguished and two crews will remain on scene to monitor hotspots and cool the scene. 

Working smoke alarms save family of three's lives

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of working smoke alarms after a family of three was rescued during a house fire in Leigh this morning. 

The family and neighbours were woken up by smoke alarms going off in the early hours of this morning. 

Firefighters were called to Marine Parade, Leigh at 2:33am to reports of a house fire and three people trapped inside the home.

On arrival, crews reported that the ground floor of a house was on fire with the first floor heavily smoke logged.
