Crews were called to a house in Shaftesbury Road, Epping, after the homeowner noticed smoke coming from upstairs. 

On arrival firefighters discovered a fire in a bedroom and worked quickly to stop it from spreading and extinguish it.

Watch Manager Marc Lemon, Loughton Fire Station, said:

"We're unsure whether the fire was caused by a candle or a laptop as both were close to the bed where the fire started. 

Firefighters have been called to reports of smoke issuing from a farm building in Harlow this afternoon (Thursday 27 October).

When fire crews first arrived at the scene they reported that an outbuilding and adjoining stables were completely alight.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire by 5pm. An investigation to find the cause of the fire will take place.

Smoke alarms alert residents to washing machine fire

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of having working smoke alarms after they raised the alarm to a washing machine fire earlier today.

Crews were called to a house fire in Cedar Grove, Burnham-on-Crouch at 11:33am when residents heard their smoke alarms going off.

On arrival, crews reported that a washing machine was on fire.

Firefighters extinguished the fie by 12:07pm.

Firefighters rescued two horses from a horse box following a road traffic collision on the A130 earlier today.

Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A130 at Sadlers Farm at 2:02pm today.

On arrival, crews reported that two vehicles had collided leaving two horses trapped in a horse box.

Firefighters worked alongside a vet to calm the horses while cutting away at the horse box to free them.

The horses were safely rescued by 3:42pm and left in the care of a vet and their owners.

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of having working smoke alarms after a mother and her three-year-old daughter were able to escape a house fire in Thurrock last night.

Crews were called to Credo Way, Thurrock at 9:59pm after the resident had heard her smoke alarms going off and got out of the house with her young daughter.

On arrival, crews reported that a bedroom upstairs was on fire.

Crews worked to extinguish the fire by 10:18pm. Firefighters believe the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

Firefighters rescued a Cocker Spaniel who was trapped in a fox hole in Loughton earlier today.

Crews were called to a garden in Hilltop, Loughton at 11:44am to reports that a curious canine had ventured a little too far into a fox hole.

Firefighters worked to rescue the dog by 12:22pm.

The mucky pup was unharmed and in the care of his owner.

Firefighters were called to an outbuilding fire in Shenfield last night.

Crews from Brentwood and Ongar were called to to Hall Lane at 8:29pm and reported that a single storey outbuilding was on fire.

Due to the remote location, firefighters requested two more crews from Chelmsford and Billericay and a Water Bowser from Corringham to help with the water supply.

Crews worked to extinguish the fire by 10:45pm.

Crews have been praised after they stopped a roof fire from spreading to a house in Little Braxted.

We were called to Kelvedon Road today at 2.40pm after a neighbour saw smoke coming from the roof.

Our Control teams sent crews from Maldon, Witham and Chelmsford, including an Aerial Ladder Platform.

Station Manager Ryan Ainger said: "The neighbour saw smoke, called us and helped the occupant from the property.

Crews have extinguished a fire affecting commercial premises in Loughton.

We were called to reports of a fire in a three-storey building in Church Hill yesterday (Saturday) at 11.32pm.

Our Control team sent crews from Loughton, Epping, Harlow, Chingford (London Fire Brigade), Woodford (London Fire Brigade) and an Aerial Ladder Platform, from Grays.

Station Manager Kev Jenner said: "Crews were faced with a well-developed fire affecting a commercial premises on the ground floor and offices in the two storeys above it.

Crews rescued two people from flood water at Buttsbury Wash.

We were called to the road, between Ingatestone and Billericay, today at 8.05am after a vehicle got stuck in the flooded road.

Crews from Brentwood and Leigh attended and used a water rescue sled to bring two people, who couldn't get to safety themselves and were distressed, to dry land at 9.06am.

Station Manager Jason Gould said: "If you see flood water, turn around and find another route. Remember just 2ft of water is enough to float a car.
