Roof work starts fire at house
Firefighters have been praised for their hard work in stopping a fire spreading at a house in Waltham Abbey.
Crews were called to Woodredon Farm Lane, Waltham Abbey, after reports of a fire.
On arrival firefighters reported that the property was smoke logged and the flat roof of a single storey extension was alight.
Station Manager Jon Ford said:
"Our crews worked incredibly hard to aggressively attack the fire and stop it from spreading to the main house or surrounding area.
"Water access was difficult to we requested further fire appliances to support us with this.
"The house is very old and full of timber structures that could easily catch fire, so our firefighters have spent a significant amount of time removing walls and the roof to make sure the scene is completely cooled and safe.
"It's thanks to our firefighter's skill that the house was saved."
The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental and is thought to have started after some work was being done to the roof.
