Crews extinguish fire affecting large pile of rubbish
Crews extinguished a fire affecting a large pile of rubbish near Navestock this morning.
We were called to Murthering Lane, close to the M25, today at 2.55am.
Crews from Brentwood, Loughton, Harlow and Chelmsford attended and found rubbish including wood and electrical appliances, covering an area of around 10 metres by 15 metres, completely alight.
Watch Manager Glenn Jackson said: "Crews worked incredibly hard for more than three hours to extinguish the fire.
"It was a particularly challenging incident because access was difficult and there was a limited water supply, so I'd like to thank crews for their commitment."
Crews fully extinguished the fire by 6.32am. The cause is unknown; accidental and deliberate are both possibilities.
A controlled burn is taking place and a crew will revisit the site at today at 9.30am.
