Industrial unit fire

Firefighters were called to a fire in an industrial unit in Harlow this morning.

On arrival, crews reported that the building was heavily smoked logged. Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the building to extinguish the fire.

Crews worked to extinguish a fire within a cardboard compacting machine by 7:29am.

The cause of the fire was accidental and was contained to the machine.

Garage fire spreads to house

Crews have extinguished a fire which started in a garage and spread to a house.

We were called to Celandine Close, Billericay today at 1.32pm and our Control teams sent crews from Basildon (two), Orsett, Brentwood and Chelmsford's Aerial Ladder Platform.

Firefighters found a garage, measuring about 8 metres long, alight and the fire was spreading to the adjoining semi-detached house. The fire was fully extinguished by 2.54pm.

Crews issue safety advice after kitchen fire

Firefighters have issued safety advice after a kitchen fire in Shoeburyness on Monday evening.

Crews were called to reports of a fire in a third floor flat (the top floor of the premises) and confirmed on arrival that the kitchen was alight.

The fire was started when the occupant of the flat was cooking. When a pan of oil ignited, the occupant threw water on it - inadvertently creating a bigger fire.

Thankfully the fire was extinguished quickly and no-one was injured.

Firefighters issue safety advice after fuel burner fire

Firefighters have issued safety advice after a family were made homeless when a fuel burner fire grew out of control.

The burner, which uses bioethanol fuel, ignited some spilt fuel which then spread to curtains.

Mark Blakebrough, Watch Manager, said: "These types of fuel burners are becoming more and more popular and we know that people may think about trying different things to stay warm this winter.

Road traffic collision - A13

Firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A13 this morning.

On arrival, crews confirmed that two heavy goods vehicles had been involved in the collision.

One man was trapped in one of the vehicles. Firefighters worked hard to release the man, before leaving him in the care of the East of England Ambulance Service.

The road is likely to remain closed for some time while the area is made completely safe - if you're travelling this morning, please use an alternative route if you can.

Urban Search and Rescue

Urban Search and Rescue is crewed by a wholetime crew, which means they give cover from the station 24/7.

Our Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team is made up of highly-trained firefighters who respond to support operational crews in incidents such as road traffic collisions, water rescue, rope rescues, incidents on mud/ice, large animal rescue and confined spaces. The team respond on fire appliances which carry specialist equipment for the variety of incidents they respond to.

Crews were called to London Road, Clacton, last night (21 October) after reports of two people trapped under a brick wall. 

Firefighters worked to release both people, a man and a 12-year old child, from under the bricks. 

Although crews were able to release the man, the child sadly died at the scene. 

Station Manager Nick Singleton said: 

“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with everyone who knew the child as well as the wider Clacton community. 

Road traffic collision

Crews were called to the scene of a road traffic collision involving three cars. 

On arrival, firefighters reported that two people were trapped in their vehicles and worked to release them. 

The casualties were left in the care of the Ambulance Service by 00:13hrs.
