Crews issue safety advice after outbuilding fire

Crews have issued safety advice after extinguishing an outbuilding fire in Hawkwell.

We were called to a semi-detached house in Woodside Road today at 6.54am after a neighbour spotted a fire in the garden.

Crews from Hawkwell and Rochford attended and found an outbuilding, measuring about three metres by four metres, completely alight.

Watch Manager Gary Shinn said: "The outbuilding was being used as a gaming room and there were lots of electrical items charging.

Phone charger causes bedroom fire

Crews have issued a warning after a phone charger caused a house fire in Harlow.

Firefighters were called to a mid-terrace property in Hollyfield yesterday at 8.10pm.

Two crews from Harlow attended and found a fire in a first floor bedroom.

Watch Manager Ross Daynes said:  "Crews did a fantastic job to contain the fire to the bedroom, although there was considerable smoke damage to the first floor.

Four crews tackle house fire

Four crews tackled a house fire in Great Waltham.

We were called to Langleys yesterday at 10.35pm and crews from Chelmsford (two), Great Baddow and Saffron Walden attended.

A two-storey property was alight and the occupant, who had been alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm, was out of the property.

Station Manager Mark Elliott said: "Incident Commander Watch Manager Gavin Ellis worked with his crews to establish a water supply from a nearby river.

"Crews worked quickly and efficiently to contain the fire to the room of origin.

Crew issues advice after kitchen fire

Crews have issued safety advice after a kitchen fire at a house in Chigwell.

We were called to Lee Grove today at 10.08am and firefighters from Loughton and Woodford (London Fire Brigade) attended.

Watch Manager Marc Lemon said: "Cooking oil in a pan had overheated and caught fire. 

"The occupants were alerted by a smoke alarm but unfortunately they threw water on the fire, which caused the oil to explode.

"At that point, they got out and called 999."

Crews extinguished the fire by 10.35am and used a fan to clear the smoke.

Woman rescued after passer-by hears smoke alarms

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of working smoke alarms after a woman was rescued from a bungalow fire when a passer-by heard smoke alarms going off.

Crews were called to a bungalow fire in Spalding Close, Braintree just after midnight.

The passer-by had also flagged down a police car after calling us and police officers bravely entered the smoke logged property to rescue a woman.

She was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

When crews arrived, they reported that the kitchen was heavily smoke logged with a fire coming from the grill.

Electric scooter battery fire

Firefighters are warning residents against buying second hand batteries after an e-scooter fire in Harlow in the night.

Crews were called to Little Brays, Harlow at 12:32am after the resident reported his e-scooter batteries had overheated while they were on charge on the kitchen.

The resident had thrown the scooter into the garden where the batteries then caught alight and exploded

Firefighters extinguished the fire by 12:54am.

Landfill site fire

Firefighters were called to a fire at a landfill site in Warren Lane, Stanway at 4:48am.

On arrival, fours crews reported that approximately 500 metres of rubbish was on fire with lots of smoke coming from the scene.

Firefighters requested two additional crews from Halstead and Wivenhoe as well as a Water Bowser from Halstead to help bring water to the scene. Two off-road vehicles from Billericay and Stansted were also sent to the scene. Our drone team has been helping crews to assess the area from above.
