Pig rescue

Firefighters rescued a pig which was trapped in mud.

Crews from Great Baddow and Chelmsford, including our Animal Rescue Unit, attended Cock Green Road, Felsted today at 9.18am.

An eight-year-old pig called Dolly, weighing about 200kg (31 stone), was trapped and in distress.

Crew Manager Lewis Black said: "The pig had lied down in its sty but got stuck in the mud could not get herself up.

"Crews worked in difficult conditions using strops (specialist straps for lifting), glide sheets and a fair bit of brute force to get her upright. 

Derelict building fire

Crews were called to reports of smoke coming from a derelict building in Bridge Road, Wickford.

On arrival firefighters reported that the building was completely smoke logged and worked quickly to extinguish the fire and clear the smoke by12.15am. 

The cause has been recorded as deliberate. 

Road traffic collision

Crews were called to Essex Yeomanry Way, Chelmsford, after a car left the roadway and landed on its side in a field. 

On arrival firefighters reported that one man was trapped in the car and worked to release him by 8.25pm. 

The casualty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Tumble dryer fire

Crews were called to a propery in Westcliff on Sea this evening after a tumble dryer caught alight. 

On arrival firefighters quickly extinguished the fire in the utility room by using dry powder, before clearing the room of smoke.

Road traffic collision - one person trapped

Crews were called to assist at the scene of a road traffic collision involving one car was on its roof.

Fire crews worked with paramedics to help release one casualty trapped in the vehicle.

The casualty was rescued by 10:30am and left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Fire at industrial site

Crews were called to reports of a fire at an industrial site. 

On arrival firefighters reported that a porta cabin used as an office block was completely alight. 

Firefighters worked hard to bring the fire under control and stop it spreading before completely extinguishing it by 3.30am. 

The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.

Road traffic collision - man trapped in car

Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Epping Road, Epping this evening.

On arrival, crews reported that two vehicles had collided and a man was trapped in his car. 

Firefighters worked to rescue the man by 7:24pm and he was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Fatal house fire

UPDATE 4:30pm

Essex Police has confirmed that a man has sadly died at the scene. The statement reads:

A man has died following a fire at an address in Saffron Walden.

Emergency services were called to Blacklands Close at around 2.30am today (Sunday 10 January).

Firefighters have extinguished the fire and will remain at the scene to make it safe.

Sadly, a man who was inside the property died at the scene.

Fire investigators have not been able to establish the cause of the fire.

House fire - caused by electrical vape charger

Firefighters were called to reports of a house fire in Maldon this afternoon (Tuesday 15 November).

When the first fire crews arrived, they reported the first floor of the house was full of smoke and a bedroom was engulfed in flames. The fire has also spread to the roof.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and extinguished the blaze.

Carbon Monoxide Warning

Firefighters were called to a suspected gas leak at a house in Basildon this morning.

When fire crews arrived they found a gas hob had been left on. Crews took readings that found a high level of carbon monoxide inside the property. Firefighters immediately ventilated the property and called for an Ambulance for an elderly man living in the house as a precaution.
