Firefighters rescue two dogs from locked car

Two dogs were rescued from a hot car in Brentwood this morning after they were inadvertently locked inside.

The dogs, both of which were Shih Tzus including one which was pregnant, became trapped after the owner accidentally left keys inside the vehicle.

Firefighters managed to release the animals by 12.05pm. Fortunately, neither dog was harmed and both were left in the care of their owner.

Fire in sheltered accommodation

A resident of sheltered accommodation was led to safety after a fire in a room in Wickford on Sunday afternoon.

Crews reported on arrival that the woman had been rescued by on-site staff and other residents had been evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the large volume of smoke which had built up within the premises.

Fortunately, no-one was harmed and the property has avoided significant damage.

The fire was extinguished by 4.51pm. We believe the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

Multiple vehicles alight

Crews were called to a farm after reports of multiple vehicles alight. 

On arrival firefighters reported that three lorries, one van, one car and a caravan were involved in the fire. 

Firefighters worked hard in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control and protect surrounding risks, extinguishing the fire by 6.50om. 

Officers will carry out an investigation into the cause of the fire as soon as it is possible. 

 

 

 

PHOTO - Lorry fire on M25

Crews were called to a lorry fire on the M25 between Junction 27 - 26 just before 4am this morning. 

On arrival firefighters reported that the lorry was 100% alight.

Crews worked hard to bring the fire under control and completely extinguished it by 6.40am. Crews expect to remain on scene for some time to continue dampening down the area. 

The cause has been recorded as accidental. 

Bungalow fire

UPDATE 4:15PM

The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.

Police have issued the following statement:

A woman has died following a fire at a bungalow in Kingsland Road, WestMersea.

We were contacted by the fire service shortly before 11am today (Wednesday 30 June).

Sadly a woman aged in her 70s died at the scene.

At this stage, her death is being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Our officers are working with fire investigators.

Chip pan fire - firefighters issue safety warning

Firefighters have issued a chip pan safety warning after a fire in Purfleet last night (Wednesday 30 June).

Fire crews were called to reports of a kitchen fire in Keswick Gardens, and at the time of the 999 call, the occupants were still inside the property.

When fire crews arrived they found the kitchen smoke logged and the cooker area had suffered some fire damage. The occupants had got out safely and the fire was out.

Firefighters found that a damp tea towel had been used to try to extinguish the fire.

Second chip pan fire in 24 hours

Firefighters were called to a second chip pan fire within 24 hours earlier today in Chafford Hundred.

Watch Manager Mark Hampton, said:

"When we arrived at the property, the occupants were safely outside and had done the right thing in turning the hob off, getting outside and calling 999.

"They told us that they had put the pan on but forgotten about it until it started smoking and then saw a flame. They knew that they shouldn't put water on the fire and the important thing was to get out of the house safely.
