Fire in derelict building

Firefighters were called to a fire in a derelict building on the A414 in Harlow.

Fire Service Control receieved over 20 calls reporting the incident.

When fire crews arrived they reported that smoke could be seen coming from the roof space of the single storey building. Firefighters had quickly extinguished the fire by 7:30pm.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Crews extinguish roof fire

Crews extinguished a fire affecting a roof at house in Westcliff.

Firefighters from Leigh, Southend and Hawkwell were called to Elderton Road today at 12.14pm and found the roof of a terraced house alight.

They extinguished the fire by 12.55pm and remained at the scene to check for hotspots.

Watch Manager Lee Hollingsworth said: "Crews did a brilliant job to exinguish fire so quickly, limiting damage to about 20% of the roof, and stop it from spreading.

Workshop and vehicles alight

Firefighters were called to a workshop and a number of vehicles alight in a yard in Stondon Massey early this morning (Monday 5 July).

When fire crews arrived they reported that the workshop, which measured approximately 15m x 15m, was completely alight.

Firefighters worked hard to tackle the fire and stop it spreading. The fire was extinguished by 5:20am, and a number of fire crews were able to leave the scene.

The remaining firefighters worked to extinguished all remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire was investigated and recorded as deliberate.

Barn Fire

Firefighters were called to a barn fire in the Dengie Peninsula during the early hours of this morning.

On arrival, crews reported that a barn measuring 20 metres by 30 metres was 100% alight. 

Crews worked to extinguish the fire in sections by 12:15pm.

Sadly, a number of animals died at the incident.

An investigation into the cause of the fire found that it started accidentally due to an electrical fault.

Vehicle fire

Firefighters were called to a motorhome fire in Sutton earlier today.

On arrival, crews reported that the motorhome was 100% alight and extinguished the fire by 12:19pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

Road traffic collision: man trapped

Firefighters were called to assist at the scene of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle today at 1.26pm.

Crews from Brentwood and Waltham Abbey attended and found a man trapped in a car which was on its side

They administered first aid and used specialist cutting equipment to release the man, who was in his eighties, by 2.28pm. He was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Road traffic collision: man freed

Firefighters were called to assist at the scene of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles in West Horndon this evening.

Crews from Basildon and Brentwood attended after we were called by the Ambulance Service to help a man who was trapped in a car in Tilbury Road.

They used specialist cutting equipment to release the man, who was conscious and breathing, by 6.37pm. He was left in the care of paramedics.

PICTURES: Crews extinguish dockside crane fire

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire involving a crane at Tilbury docks on Saturday afternoon.

On arrival, crews confirmed that a dockside crane was completely alight.

To prevent fuel reaching the open water, a sandbank was created using an on-site mechanical digger.

The fire was extinguished completely by 5.30pm. We believe the fire was caused accidentally by an electrical fault.

PICTURE: Firefighters rescue two dogs from ditch

Two alsatians were rescued by firefighters after they became trapped in a ditch in Tilbury on Monday morning.

Firefighters worked to safely release the dogs using a triple extension ladder. Fortunately, both animals have avoided injury.

Temporary Watch Manager Terry Myers said: "I'd like to thank our firefighters for their work this morning as well as an ambulance service crew who were nearby and helped us to create an improvised platform for the dogs to climb up during the rescue.

Fire at commercial premises

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a premises in Roots Hall Avenue, Southend this evening.

To confirm, this fire was not affecting the football stadium itself.

 

At 6.30pm, firefighters reported that a large quantity of astroturf was alight, which was creating a significant amount of smoke. Crews were working hard to prevent the spread of the fire.
