Update 8PM 

Crews are continuing to turn over the controlled burn. They are working with the farmer to break down the stack. 


Update 7AM 

Firefighters remained at the scene overnight and are continuing to let the haystack burn under control. One crew is in attendance.


Crews are currently tackling a large haystack fire in Walton on the Naze. 

Firefighters from Clacton and Weeley were called at 4:05pm this afternoon. 

Incinerator causes fence to set alight

Firefighters from Leigh were called to an incident on Stone Hill Road, Leigh on Sea last night. 

On arrival, crews discovered a fence that was fully alight. Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fence panels by 9.51pm. 

Watch Manager Ian Randall said: “When we arrived we found three fence panels fully alight. The crew did a great job at putting the fire out quickly to stop it from spreading to anything else. 

Road traffic collision - one person rescued

Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Edinburgh Way in Harlow earlier today.

On arrival, crews reported that one vehicle was involved in a collision and a person was trapped.

Watch Manager Jon Allen said: “The crews did a great job and worked quickly to get the door off the car and free the casualty.”

The casualty was rescued by 12.07pm and left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Smoke alarm alerts family to fire in ninth floor flat

A family were alerted to a fire in their ninth floor flat thanks to a smoke alarm.

We were called to reports of a kitchen fire in a high rise building in Victoria Road, Warley yesterday at 7.18pm.

Crews from Brentwood, Basildon, Chelmsford (two), Orsett and Hawkwell attended. 

Watch Manager Ben Stapleton said: "The first crews to arrive worked incredibly hard to put our high rise procedures in place and start tackling the fire.

Tumble dryer fire leaves family homeless

A family has been left homeless after a tumble dryer caused a fire at a house in Parkeston.

We were called a mid-terrace house in Princess Street today at 5.18am.

Crews from Dovercourt and Colchester (two) attended and found a utility room completely alight.

Watch Manager Dan Davis said: "Shortly after turning on the tumble dryer, the occupants heard an unusual noise and went to investigate.

Crews extinguish fire at recycling plant

Crews have extinguished a fire at a recycling plant in Stondon Massey.

We were called to an industrial estate in Ongar Road yesterday at 10.52pm.

Crews from Brentwood, Chelmsford (two), Harlow and Ongar tackled a fire affecting a two-storey building measuring approximately 20 metres by 15 metres.

At 2am, Station Manager Richie Green said: "Crews were faced with a well-developed fire and worked quickly to surround it.

"Thanks to their hard work, they have prevented it from spreading and have it under control.

Hoover left on charge causes fire

Crews have issued smoke alarm safety advice after a house fire in Rayleigh this afternoon. 

We were called to Eastview Drive, Rayleigh at 1:54pm. On arrival, firefighters confirmed it was a fire in a study.  

Crews using Breathing Apparatus to enter the property and used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire by 2:30pm. 

Crew Manager Adam Paterson said: “Incidents like this serve as a good reminder as to why we recommend everyone has working smoke alarms on every level of their property. 

Crews attend road traffic collision on A120

Firefighters assisted at the scene of a road traffic collision on the A120 near Great Dunmow this morning. 

One car trailing a caravan was involved, the caravan ended up on its side.

Station Manager Howard Midwood said: “Fortunately no one was trapped or injured in this incident. Our crews and the police worked really quickly and efficiently to make the scene safe and get the road back up and open again.” 

Crews made the scene safe by 12:22pm.
