Electric scooter fire

Crews were called to a top floor flat after smoke alarms alerted the resident to a fire. 

When firefighters arrived they reported the fire was in a bedroom and the flat was heavily smoke logged. 

Temporary Crew Manager Oliver Whiting, Leigh Fire Station, said:

"Thankfully there were working smoke alarms in the flat and when the resident heard them going off he did the right thing by immediately getting out, staying out and calling 999. 

"The fire was caused by an electric scooter that was charging in the bedroom.

Heavily smoke logged flat

Crews were called to a flat in Purfleet-on-Thames last night after neighbours heard a smoke alarm going off. 

On arrival firefighters found a heavily smoke logged property. They quickly found the source of the smoke to be a frying pan on the hob. Firefighters removed the pan and used positive-pressure ventilation fans to clear the smoke from the flat.

Woman rescued from flooded road

Firefighters are urging drivers to avoid driving through flooded roads after rescuing a woman from in Bulford Lane, Black Notley this morning. 

Crews were called to Bulford Lane, Black Notley at 05:48am and on arrival reported that a car was stuck in the water with a woman inside. 

Specially trained water rescue firefighters rescued the woman and brought her to safety. 

Dog rescued from well

Firefighters from our Urban Search and Rescue team and Saffron Walden Fire Station have been thanked after rescuing Cora, a 3-year-old Patterdale Terrier, after she fell down a 30 metre well in Great Chesterford on Saturday.

Crews were called at 5:05pm to Park Road, Great Chesterford after Cora had been chasing game on the farm and ran into a disused building where she fell down a well. 

She’d fallen around 30 metres into the well. When crews arrived and monitored the oxygen levels in the well, they were dangerously low. 

Roof fire

Firefighters were called to a roof fire in St Johns Crescent, Canvey yesterday afternoon after the resident saw a large amount of smoke coming from his extractor fan in the bathroom. 

On arrival, crews reported that the roof space of an end of terrace house was on fire. 

Crews worked to extinguish the fire from the loft and used an Aerial Ladder Platform to strip off parts of the roof to ventilate the area. 

Firefighters also worked to ventilate the loft space of the house next door to prevent smoke spreading throughout the two properties. 

Air fryer left on hob catches fire

Crews have urged residents to make sure their hobs are clear after a kitchen fire in Hutton today.

We were called to a mid-terrace house in Birkbeck Road at 9.51am when the occupant heard a smoke alarm and discovered a fire in the kitchen. 

Firefighters from Brentwood and Basildon found the ground floor kitchen filled with smoke and extinguished a small fire on the hob.

Station Manager Nick Singleton said: "The electric cooker had been turned on accidentally and set fire to an air fryer which had been left on the hob.

Cooking oil fire in high rise building

Firefighters are giving cooking safety advice after a cooking oil fire in Basildon last night. 

Crews were called to a high rise building in Cherrydown East, Basildon at 10:34pm. 

On arrival, crews reported the there was a fire on the 6th floor. 

Crews entered a flat and extinguished a fire in the kitchen. 

Firefighters believe the fire was caused by cooking oil that had caught alight.
