Crews tackle fire affecting 15 tonnes of straw
Crews are tackling a fire affecting straw and vehicles at a farm in Stoke-by-Nayland.
We were called to Calves Lane today at 12.14pm and two crews from Colchester and one from Sudbury (Suffolk) attended.
They found approximately 15 tonnes of straw, a lorry and trailers alight. An additional crew from Long Melford (Suffolk), Halstead's Water Bowser, which supplies large quantities of water, and our Urban Search and Rescue team's drone were requested.
Watch Manager Dan Davis said: "Crews worked hard to protect surrounding buildings, including barns containing straw.
"They got the fire under control and will remain at the scene into the evening to make sure it burns out safely.
"Thank you to the farmer who has been using his machinery to help to stop the fire from spreading and break up the straw."
Crews from Leaden Roding, Wethersfield and Brightlingsea took over from the initial crews at about 4.30pm.
Crews left the scene shortly before 10pm.
An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause but early indications are that it was accidental.
