Tumble dryer fire

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of working smoke alarms after a tumble dryer fire in Rayleigh last night. 

Crews were called to Kelso Close, Rayleigh at 10:51pm last night after the residents noticed the power had tripped and the smoke alarms were going off. They found their tumble dryer on fire and dialled 999. 

On arrival, crews reported a tumble dryer was on fire and extinguished the fire. 

Unattended candle destroys bedroom

Firefighters are warning residents about the danger of unattended candles after a bedroom was destroyed in Harlow. 

Crews were called to a house fire in Barn Mead, Harlow at 4:18pm when neighbours called after hearing smoke alarms going off. 

On arrival, crews reported that a bedroom was 100% smoke logged. 

Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the bedroom and extinguished the fire. 

Crews believe the fire was caused by an unattended candle. 

Kitchen fire - no working smoke alarms

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of having working smoke alarms on every level of your home after a kitchen fire in Basildon this morning.

Crews were called to Wayletts, Basildon at 4am after the residents woke up to a smoke filled house. 

On arrival, firefighters confirmed that the house was heavily smoke logged with a fire in the kitchen. 

Crews wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the house and found a pan on fire on the hob.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to ventilate the property. 

Man rescued from flooded road

Firefighters are urging drivers to avoid driving through flooded roads after rescuing a man in Middle Street, Clavering this morning. 

On arrival, crews reported that a people carrier was stuck in 3ft of rising floodwater. 

Crews worked to rescue the man using a ladder.

Station Manager Kevin Jenner said: “We know there are lots of flooded roads across Essex today and we’d urge you not to risk driving through them. 

Firefighters rescue man after car in collision with house

Firefighters rescued a man after his car went through the front of a house.

We were called to Duncan Road, Colchester today at 3.21pm and crews from Colchester (two), Coggeshall and our Urban Search and Rescue team attended.

Firefighters removed the rear seat of the car so they could carry the man, who was conscious and breathing throughout, on a stretcher.

He was left in the care of the Ambulance Service at 4.16pm.

Station Manager Ryan Ainger said: "Crews did a professional job in stabilising the vehicle and removing the man safely.

House fire

UPDATED 5.30PM

The fire was extinguished at 3.40pm but crews will remain at the scene into the evening to dampen down hot spots.

Group Manager Mark Eaglestone said: "The fire started to the rear of a mid-terrace house, spread through the property and into the roof. It then affected the roofs of five other terraced properties.

"Crews worked extremely hard to create a fire break and did a fantastic job of stopping it from spreading further."

Bungalow fire

Firefighters are highlighting the importance of having working smoke alarms after a bungalow fire in Clacton last night. 

Crews were called to Leas Road, Clacton at 10:33pm after the resident called for help when a cigarette caught a chair alight. 

On arrival, crews reported that the bungalow was heavily smoke logged and extinguished the fire. 

A woman was left in the care of the Ambulance Service. 

The bungalow has been heavily smoke damaged.
