PHOTOS: Calf rescued from river

Firefighters rescued a curious calf from the River Stort this afternoon.

A member of the public used what3words to help crews locate the calf who was trapped in knee height water.

Crews worked together to lift the calf out of the water and onto the riverbank by 2pm.

The calf was left in the care of the farmer and led back to its field with the other calves.

Chimney fire

Firefighters were called to a chimney fire in Ashdon last night when the residents heard their smoke alarms going off.

On arrival, crews reported that there was a fire within a chimney of a house.

Firefighters used chimney rods to extinguish the fire by 6:43pm.

Carbon monoxide alarm alerts family to fire in middle of the night

A Chelmsford family has had a lucky escape after a carbon monoxide alarm alerted them to a fire that had potentially been smouldering for days. 

The family called 999 after their utility room's carbon monoxide alarm went off in the early hours of Saturday morning. Once awake the family went into the utility room and noticed white wispy smoke around the flume leading to the boiler. 

Road traffic collision

Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A12 Northbound at Marks Tey at 12:49pm.

On arrival, crews reported that a vehicle had collided with a tree and two people were trapped inside.

Crews worked closely with our colleagues in the Ambulance Service to rescue the casualties by 3:09pm.

 

 

 

Road traffic collision - one man released

Crews were called to a road traffic collision involving one vehicle. 

On arrival firefighters reported that a car was on its side and a man was trapped inside. 

Crews worked to release the man by 6.50pm and left him in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Neighbours alerted to kitchen fire by carbon monoxide alarm

A woman was woken by neighbours after they heard her carbon monoxide alarm going off in the early hours of this morning. 

Crews were called to a flat in Southend after reports of smoke in the kitchen. 

On arrival firefighters reported the fire was already out and the woman was safely outside her property.

Woman released from car following collision with tree

Firefighters have freed a woman from the scene of a road traffic collision this afternoon, when a car collided with a tree in Chelmsford.

Crews were called to a road traffic collision which happened on Ingatestone Road at around 1:07pm today.

On arrival, firefighters reported that a car had collided with a tree, and a woman was trapped in her vehicle.

Crews used specialist equipment to release the casualty and she was left in the care of the Ambulance Service by 2:10pm.

Kitchen fire

Crews have issued safety advice after a kitchen fire in Great Baddow.

Firefighters from Great Baddow and Chelmsford were called to a flat in Purbeck Court today at 9.40am after a neighbour saw smoke coming from a window.

The ground floor flat was unoccupied so firefighters forced entry.

Watch Manager Paul Speller said: "The occupant had left a grill pan on the hob which had accidentally been left on and some plastic in the grill pan was producing smoke. 

"Thankfully we were able to quickly clear the smoke so the damage was minimal.

Fuel leak at depot

UPDATED 12.40PM

On-site engineers have isolated the leak and a blanket of foam has been applied to the fuel.

The estimated amount of fuel which has leaked is 3,000 litres.

Firefighters will remain at the scene while the recovery operation continues.

11.55AM

Crews are dealing with a fuel leak at a terminal in West Thurrock.

Firefighters were called to Oliver Road today at 10.18am to reports that approximately 600 litres of fuel had leaked.

Man released from car following collision with lorry

Firefighters freed a man from a vehicle this afternoon, after a lorry collided with a car on the M25, Eastbound, between J26 and J27.

Crews were called to a road traffic collision which happened on the M25 at around 12:13pm today.

On arrival, firefighters reported that a lorry had crashed into the rear of a car and an elderly man was trapped.

Crews used specialist equipment to release the man and he was left in the care of the Ambulance Service by 1:37pm.
