PHOTOS: Field fire in Southend

Firefighters were called to a field fire in Southend earlier today.

On arrival, crews confirmed that a fire was affecting an area of grassland and trees measuring 200m x 200m.

Firefighters used water and beaters to extinguish the fire by 6:11pm.

Crews believe this fire may have been started deliberately.

Vehicle fire

Update 5:30pm

Crews are working with site staff to make the scene safe after a tanker caught fire.

The fire is out and there is no immediate hazard to the wider community. Road closures are now being lifted.

Group Manager Danny Partridge, Incident Commander said: “Thank you to residents for their patience and keeping windows and doors closed in this hot weather and to the site staff for their help during this incident.”

Crews expect to remain on scene for the next area working to make the site safe.

Field fire on Canvey Island

Firefighters were called to a field fire near Roscommon Way in Canvey.

Eight crews worked to extinguish a fire affecting 10 hectares of scrubland.

Firefighters extinguished the fire by 4:24pm.


Crews were called to Roscommon Way on Canvey Island at 1:50pm.

On arrival, Firefighters confirmed 10 hectacres of scrubland was alight.

This is an on-going incident. The fire is surrounded and under control.

There are several road closures in place while we continue to tackle the fire. Please avoid the area if possible,

Barbecue causes garage fire

Crews were called to a fire affecting a garage in Kingfisher Drive, South Benfleet last night.

On arrival, firefighters confirmed that a barbecue had been propped up against the garage, and the windowsill and guttering were alight.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire by 10:07pm.

Watch Manager at Rayleigh Fire Station, Dan Evison, said: “We’ve seen a number of fires caused by barbecues across the county in the last few weeks and this incident is a prime example of how easily they can happen.

We attended more than 20 field fires yesterday including a large field fire near Langford Road, Wickham Bishops.

Eight crews worked to extinguish a large fire that spread across eight hectares of grass and woodland.

Crews surround the fire and extinguished it by 7:22pm.

This incident has been updated with aerial images taken from our drone, which we used at the scene to enable our firefighters to see what has happening from above so they could get ahead of the fire.

Crews were called back to the scene at 9.36am on Saturday 13 August with reports of multiple tree stumps smouldering.

This incident has now been closed.

In total we used 12 hose reel jets, two off road vehicles and a large number of beaters and back pack sprayers to deal with the fire.

Large field fire in Harlow under control

Firefighters have returned to the area this morning to dampen down some hotspots.

Crews left the area at 00.38 today, all remaining hotspots have been dealt with.

Ten fire crews have been dealing with a field fire in Buckingham Hill Road, Linford, this afternoon.

A 200 metre square area of land was affected with firefighters working hard in difficult terrain to stop the spread of the fire.

Station Manager Dan Kirk said: “It was a challenging area to access but once again our firefighters worked incredibly hard and contained the fire. They did a great job.”
