Firefighters are highlighting the importance of having working smoke alarms after a family was alerted to a roof fire when they heard their smoke alarms going off in Bulphan.

Crews were called to a fire in a detached house in Bulphan at 7:30pm.

The property was heavily smoke logged with a fire in the roof. Crews requested further assistance from two crews at Basildon and Brentwood as well as an Aerial Ladder Platform from Grays Fire Station.

Crews extinguished the fire by 9:42pm. An investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.

Firefighters have praised a family who acted quickly to get out of the house and call the fire service out when their oven caught fire in Leigh this evening.

Crews were called to Lymington Avenue, Leigh at 6:40pm after the residents reported their oven had caught alight.

The family had acted quickly to get out of the house, stay out and call the fire service out.

On arrival, crews reported that the kitchen was heavily smoke logged and extinguished the fire by 7:13pm.

Firefighters were called to a fire in a house in West Mersea at 10am, when a family member noticed signs of a fire from outside the property.

On arrival, crews confirmed that the fire was in the bedroom and the property was heavily smoke-logged. They worked quickly to extinguish it by 10:33am. As a result of their hard work, the fire was successfully contained to the bedroom, however the house is unfortunately uninhabitable as a result of the fire.

Thankfully, no one sustained any serious injuries.

Crews have issued safety advice after they extinguished two separate chimney fires in the space of 30 minutes in Great Wakering.

Firefighters from Shoeburyness and Southend were called to Twyford Avenue yesterday (Tuesday 15 March) at 5.39pm. They used chimney rods to extinguish the fire by 6.23pm.

At 6.10pm, we received a called to a chimney fire in Alexandra Road. Firefighters from Southend used a hose reel to extinguish the fire by 6.56pm.

Firefighters were called to reports that a takeaway restaurant in Southchurch Road, Southend was alight on Wednesday evening.

On arrival crews confirmed that the premises, which is on the stretch of Southchurch Road close to Southend East train station, was almost completely alight. The fire had very quickly spread to neighbouring properties.

Firefighters worked hard to prevent the incident from spreading further and divided the incident into sectors to allow them to do so more efficiently.

Firefighters were called to a fire in a grain burner at 3.25pm today at a premises in Station Road, Witham.

The fire was out on arrival but crews had to empty the 7m by 2m roaster of the barley stored inside and use a thermal imaging camera to make sure it wasn’t alight.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

The incident was attended by crews from Witham who are on-call Firefighters, who all live or work within 5 minutes of an on-call fire station and attend incidents.

Firefighters rescued five dogs from a house fire in Chelmsford last night.

Crews were called to a property in Upper Bridge Road at 9.51pm following calls from a neighbour that they could hear the dogs barking but they then went quiet. They then heard the smoke alarm and dialled 999. The two people who lived there were not at home at the time.

A couple have been left homeless following a bungalow fire in Jaywick today.

Crews were called at 3.44pm to the property in Riley Avenue after neighbours heard the smoke alarm sounding. There was no-one inside at the time.

The fire has resulted in extensive damage to the dining room area and the cause was accidental.

Firefighters have issued safety advice following a fire at a ground floor flat in Long Riding, Basildon, this evening which has left two people homeless.

Crews were called to the property at 7.19pm when a neighbour dialled 999 after hearing a smoke alarm go off.

When they arrived the property was heavily smoke logged and firefighters believed the occupants were still aside. They carried out a full search and rescued two cats, two snakes and two geckos. Unfortunately two budgies had died.

Clacton firefighters rescued a deer that was trapped in a fence this morning.

On arrival, crews reported that a deer was trapped in a fence and firefighters cut away at the fence to rescue it by 10:32am.

The deer was unharmed and trotted off happily after being freed.
