House fire

Firefighters were called to a house fire in East Mersea just after midnight after the residents were woken up by their smoke alarms.

On arrival, crews reported that a two-storey timber framed house was on fire and heavily smoke logged.

The fire was starting to spread to a 1,800 litre heating oil tank and crews worked to prevent the fire spreading further.

Firefighters extinguished the fire by 1:56am.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place today.

Car fire on driveway spreads to caravan and house

Firefighters were called a car fire in Colchester in the early hours of this morning which spread to a caravan and a house.

Crews were called to a car fire on a driveway in Gilderdale Close, Colchester where the fire had spread to a caravan and was beginning to spread to a house.

Both the car and the caravan - which contained gas cylinders - were 100% alight.

Crews worked to prevent the fire spreading to the house.

Crews extinguished the fire by 2:39am and worked to cool the cylinders.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place today.

Vehicle fire

Firefighters were called to a vehicle fire in the early hours of this morning at Tilbury Docks.

On arrival, crews reported that a horizontal grinder was on fire.

Crews worked to remove inspection panels and extinguished the fire by 4:44am.

UPDATE: 10:41am

Crews have now left the scene of the incident, after assisting British Transport Police and Greater Anglia in safely transferring 55 passengers onto a replacement train.

Dave Bond, Station Manager at Waltham Abbey, said: “All agencies worked well together to minimise delays for all passengers involved.

The road is likely to remain closed for most of the day whilst an investigation takes place, so we’re urging people to avoid the area where possible.”

Kitchen fire

Crews were called to a kitchen fire on Rayleigh Road this afternoon, when a plastic steriliser lid melted onto the hob and caught fire.

Firefighters were called to Rayleigh Road in Southend-On-Sea at 12:45pm today.

On arrival, crews confirmed the fire was out and it had been caused by a plastic steriliser lid which had melted onto an electric hob.

Firefighters checked that the fire was fully extinguished and then fitted smoke alarms in the property before leaving.

Fire destroys pub in South Cambridgeshire

Crews from Saffron Walden, Newport and Halstead were called to the scene of a fire in a flat above a pub in South Cambridgeshire last night.

Firefighters were called to join Crews from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service at a property in Town Lane, Pampisford at 11:31pm.

On arrival, crews confirmed that a flat above a pub was completely alight.

Crews used Breathing Apparatus to attempt to extinguish the fire from inside the building, but were called out when floors began to collapse and the roof was identified as being unsafe.

Fire blocks exit - two women and two dogs rescued

Firefighters were called to a flat in Holland On Sea last night, when residents were woken by their smoke alarm after a fire had started outside of the building, blocking their exit.

Crews were called to Frinton Road in Holland On Sea at 12:14am. Our control team stayed on the phone to the occupants as they waited for crews to arrive, issuing fire survival guidance to keep them as safe as possible.

Heat lamp causes fire in reptile enclosure

Firefighters were called to a fire in Southend-On-Sea last night when a man was woken by the smell of smoke in his home.

On arrival, crews confirmed that a heat lamp in a reptile enclosure had caught fire. The room was 50% alight and was full of smoke.

Firefighters worked hard to extinguish the fire as quickly as possible. They were able to prevent the fire spreading to other rooms in the property, but the room where the reptiles were kept suffered significant damage as a result of the fire.
