Firefighters rescued a man who sustained injuries after falling from a roof.

The Ambulance Service requested assistance today (Friday 3 September) at 10.14am after a man had fallen approximately 12ft.

He had sustained injuries and was trapped between wooden joists about 8ft from the ground.

Basildon firefighters helped paramedics to stabilise the casualty. Our Urban Search and Rescue team, based in Lexden, and Aerial Ladder Platform from Chelmsford also attended to assist in the rescue.

Crews were called to a road traffic collision involving one vehicle. 

On arrival firefighters reported that one car was on its roof and a person was trapped inside.

Firefighters worked to release the casualty by 5.02pm and left them in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Firefighters gave first aid to a man with burns to his back and legs in Maldon today after a weed burner set a shed alight.

Crews from Maldon and South Woodham Ferrers were called to Gloucester Avenue in Maldon at 2:36pm.

On arrival, crews reported that a man had burns to his back and legs and immediately began to give him first aid while waiting for the Ambulance Service to arrive.

The shed, measuring approximately 6 metres by 4 metres, was on fire and firefighters extinguished it by 3:25pm.

The man was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

UPDATE:

The cause of the carbon monoxide leak was found to be in a wire inside pipe insulation that had burned due to an electrical fault. The temperature in the pipe insulation was low so the wire did not cause a fire but was slowly decomposing creating carbon monoxide.

Firefighters remained at the scene until 8:45pm and left the scene in the care of the building occupier.

Firefighters were called to Motherwell Way, Grays, this afternoon after a number of people in an industrial unit felt unwell.

Firefighters were called to a field fire in Ovington alongside our colleagues in Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service this afternoon. 

On arrival, crews reported that a field - measuring approximately XX - was on fire and requested crews from Sible Hedingham and Wethersfield to assist.

Crews have issued safety advice after a fire started by a weed burner damaged three homes and four sheds.

Firefighters from Basildon and Orsett were called to Gaywood, Laindon today (Wednesday 8 September) at 2.01pm.

The occupant had been burning weeds and accidentally started a fire which rapidly spread.

Watch Manager Adam Barber said: "The occupant was using a weed burner but set fire to some leaves. Because it is so hot and dry, it quickly spread to a fence and then set alight four sheds and effected three homes.

Firefighters rescued a Border Collie last night after the curious canine got its head stuck in trellis fencing. 

Crews were called to Gaynesford in Basildon just after 9:30pm and found a Border.Collie trapped in the fencing. 

Firefighters reassured the dog while using a hacksaw to cut away at the fences. 

The dog was uninjured and left in the care of its worried owners.

Firefighters rescued a man following a road traffic collision in South Woodham Ferrers.

A total of four crews were called to Hullbridge Road today at 2pm because the incident involved a bus.

The bus had been in collision with a car parked next to a shop and pushed it partially into the building, trapping the car driver. 

Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to free the man who was left in the care of the Ambulance Service at 2.29pm.

Station Manager Steve Wintrip from Ongar Fire Station rescued a kitten that was trapped under floorboards in Ongar earlier today.

The curious cat had been exploring when she became trapped under the floorboards.

Steve rescued the kitten by 12:27pm and she was left in the care of her owner.

The kitten had yet to be named and her owner asked Steve is he wanted to name her. He called her Millie and left her happily eating her food.

Firefighters rescued a woman from her car following a road traffic collision in Marks Tey today.

On arrival, crews reported that a car had left the roadway and collided with a tree and a woman was trapped inside the car.

Firefighters rescued the woman by 3:38pm and she was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.
