Crews tackle fire affecting outbuilding
Crews extinguished a fire affecting an outbuilding in Wethersfield.
We were called to Mumfords Hill today at 6.13pm and crews from Wethersfield and Halstead initially attended.
They found an outbuilding, measuring approximately 10 metres by 8 metres, around 80% alight.
Two further crews, from Braintree and Coggeshall, were requested due to the isolated location and lack of good water supply.
Station Manager Pete Donovan said: "The building is timber framed and the fire spread to the roof void, so crews have worked incredibly hard to stop the fire spreading and get it under control so efficiently.
"They also quickly removed a cylinder which was releasing gas from the building and managed to cool it down.
"It went from a situation where we thought the building would be completely destroyed to a position where it is now saveable, and that is down to the crews' hard work."
The fire was extinguished by 8.41pm and crews remained at the scene to check for hotspots. Crews will revisit the scene later this evening.
An investigation will be carried out to determine the cause.
