Waterside Responder Scheme
The Waterside Responder Scheme is a new life-saving water rescue scheme which has been launched in Essex to help tackle the number of tragic drownings.
The Scheme has been designed by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) to provide life-saving training and equipment to hospitality staff, security staff and waterside community members to help prevent drowning around rivers and waterways across the UK and Ireland.
Every year, around 400 people drown in the seas and inland waters of the UK, and these tragic accidents happen all year round. Many of these deaths could have been prevented if there had been quick response from someone who had the right training and equipment to help.
How you can get involved
In partnership with the RNLI, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is offering this life-saving training which will teach basic skills and knowledge that would help them safely assist in the rescue of a person in water prior to the arrival of the fire service.
We invite you, and your venue’s staff, to take part in our free throw bag training. During this session we will train your teams how to:-
-
use a throw bag to help rescue somebody in the water
-
provide safety advice to people using waterside areas
-
understand the risks of the waterside near your venue
If your venue is near the water and you’d like your staff to take part in this free training, please contact us to book your free session.
What happens next?
We will be in touch to arrange the free training session at your site at a time convenient to you. Training manuals, quick reference key cards, throw bags and storage will all be provided to you completely free of charge. It will be your venue's responsibility to store and maintain the throw bags, and we will give guidance on this as part of the training.
