South Woodham Ferrers Fire Station holds its first on-call firefighter training

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is holding its first on-call firefighter training course at South Woodham Ferrers Fire Station this week.

Seven trainee on-call firefighters began their training at South Woodham Ferrers Fire Station on Monday, 15 March and will take on a two-week intensive training course before they continue their training at their home stations.

Station Manager Dan Wastell, South Woodham Ferrers Fire Station said: “We’re really excited to be holding the first of two on-call firefighter training courses at South Woodham Ferrers Fire Station. Our second course will be held from 27 June.

“We’ve got a new recruit coming to South Woodham Fire Station from this course and we hope to fill the next course with local residents. It’s great for our new recruits to train at the station they will be serving at and with colleagues they’re set to work with in their careers.

“It’s also great for our local community to see our fire station being used for training and seeing people from the community train to become their local firefighters.

“If you’re interested in becoming an on-call firefighter at South Woodham Ferrers Fire Station, you can pop in next Friday (25 March) to meet some of our trainee on-call firefighters and find out more about the role.”

The seven new recruits will be based in Braintree, Brightlingsea, Manningtree, South Woodham Ferrers, Tollesbury and Witham.
