£1.4 million investment to improve Shoeburyness Fire Station
Residents and businesses in Shoeburyness and its surrounding areas will have a new, modern fire station and community building thanks to investment from the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex.
The fire station, in Shoebury High Street, will be fully developed into a state-of-the-art facility for our firefighters and the local community, including the current building and extending into the former police station.
Work started on the new building on Tuesday 3rd May and will last around 12 months. The fire appliance will be based under a mile away at the TreeFella in Wakering Road and crews will operate from there until the station is ready.
Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, Roger Hirst, said: “We have been investing heavily in our people, our IT and our key stations so we can provide the best possible service to the public. The investment in Shoeburyness Station is a significant commitment and will enable the use of better equipment and help our firefighters deliver the excellent prevention, protection and response service that the community deserve.”
Station Manager Kerry Taylor said: “This is exciting news as it means Shoebury will have a new station that is fit for purpose for a modern fire and rescue service.
“Residents do not need to be concerned as our crews have a temporary base in Shoebury just under a mile away so our coverage of the area will not be affected during the building work. Parts of the station date back to the First World War and it has been at the heart of the community for decades. This works shows our long-term commitment to Shoebury and the local area. Once the new station is built we hope to be able to once again hold events for the community and it will be a building everyone can be proud of.”
He added: “We appreciate that residents may feel worried but we will still be there to keep them safe and will keep any disruption caused by the work to a minimum. We’d also like to thank TreeFella for its support.”

It will incorporate all the best practice around firefighters’ health and wellbeing and will also provide excellent training facilities for our staff which will ensure the continuation of the excellent service we provide to the community. Work beginning on site marks the culmination of many years of planning and I very much look forward to seeing the project beginning to take shape.”
