Leigh Fire Station takes on wild new look for pollinators

Firefighters from Leigh Fire Station have been playing their part in rewilding the area to encourage wildlife.

As part of the national No Mow May campaign, Leigh firefighters have been rewilding their fire station to encourage wildlife.

They’ve left the fire station garden to do its own thing to encourage bees, butterflies, moths, beetles and other pollinators with more flowers and nectar.

Crew Manager Chris Seal from Leigh Fire Station said: “Research shows that mowing your lawn less frequently can boost bees, butterflies, moths, beetles and other pollinators by providing more flowers and nectar.

“For the last couple of years we have left a section of grass at the front of our station to do its own thing, this is our way of helping the pollinators.

"Members of the station have thrown their own wild flower seeds down so hopefully we will have a lot more colour soon.

"We'd encourage residents with green space to fence off an area and let nature take its course.”
