Fire service receive new FireCar
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has received a brand new Audi S3 car to help engage with young drivers about road safety.
The car, which has been donated by Essex Group1Audi, is part of the fire service’s road safety activities aiming to drive down the number of people killed or seriously injured on Essex roads.
Andrea MacAlister, Head of Prevention said: “We’re very grateful to Essex Group1Audi for their continued commitment and generous contribution to our road safety activities. We’ve had a partnership with them for over eight years now and during that time we’ve been able to engage with thousands of young drivers to educate them on safe driving.
“Young drivers account for the highest number of people killed or serious injured on our roads, so we focus much of our work on engaging and educating these drivers.
The fire service’s road safety team attend many events and car enthusiast meets through the year to engage with young drivers.
Andrea added: “Having a brand new Audi car with us definitely provides a talking point and helps attract the young drivers over to talk to us. We don’t want to lecture people, we want to have a meaningful conversations and the FireCar helps us interact with young drivers.
As well as providing a FireCar, Essex Group1Audi have also recently hosted groups of Essex firefighters at their sites across Essex to present their insights into the manufacturing of electric vehicles. The workshops have also included a tour of their workshops by their trained technicians and have provided firefighters a first-hand look at the vehicles in more detail.
