Essex County Fire and Rescue Service introduces Transitioning at Work guidance

We have introduced our Transitioning at Work guidance – a commitment we are making as a Service to ensure that transgender and non-binary colleagues are treated with dignity and respect and are not disadvantaged in the workplace.

The guidance, which has been developed with the support of our representative bodies, sets out the steps our Service takes to prevent discrimination.

Colette Black, Director of People Services, said: “We believe that diversity and inclusion bring benefits to our Service and that people work at their best when they can be themselves.

“This guidance shows that we are committed to welcoming and supporting transgender and non-binary employees, cultivating and providing a working environment where transgender and non-binary employees are respected and valued, removing barriers to recruitment, promotion and retention. We want our people to be free from gender identity-based discrimination, harassment or victimisation and bring their whole selves to work.”
