Vape charger fire
Firefighters are highlighting the importance of staying in the room with devices on charge after a vape left on charge caused a bedroom fire in Chelmsford today.
Crews were called to Shardelow Avenue, Chelmsford at 9:42am to reports of a house fire after residents came home and saw smoke coming from the upstairs windows.
On arrival, crews reported that a bedroom on the third floor of a town house was on fire with smoke coming out of the windows.
Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the house and extinguished the fire.
The fire was caused by a vape left on charge.
Station Manager Nick Singleton said: “Our control room were great on the phone to reassure the residents and advise them how to stay safe while they waited for us. Our advice when you discover a fire in your home is always to get out of the house, stay out and call the fire service.
“If you're charging any electrical device, we recommend you stay in the room while charging. Don’t charge devices longer than recommended and make sure you use a charger recommended by the manufacturer. If you need to buy a new charger or device, make sure it confirms to the British Standards for fire safety.”
Online Home Safety Check
Firefighters are encouraging everyone to complete the Online Home Safety Check to evaluate your own fire risk at home. The check will provide you with tailored advice and handy tips throughout to help reduce the risk of a fire in your home.
You can carry out a check for yourself, or any family members. Friends, neighbours, registered carers, support workers and partner agencies can all use this tool. In some cases, it may suggest that we attend your property to give in-person advice and fit smoke alarms if required.
