Tumble dryer fire
Firefighters are highlighting the importance of working smoke alarms after a tumble dryer fire in Rayleigh last night.
Crews were called to Kelso Close, Rayleigh at 10:51pm last night after the residents noticed the power had tripped and the smoke alarms were going off. They found their tumble dryer on fire and dialled 999.
On arrival, crews reported a tumble dryer was on fire and extinguished the fire.
Firefighter Lee Blackwell from Rayleigh Fire Station said: “The residents had been awake and were quick to spot the fire as soon as their power tripped and the smoke alarms started going off.
“This goes to show how important working smoke alarms are as had the fire have happened while they were sleeping or out, the smoke alarms would have alerted them or neighbours to the fire.
“We recommend you have at least one working smoke alarm on every level of your home and that you test them regularly. If you haven’t got working smoke alarms at home, we can fit them for free. Get in touch with our team at www.essex-fire.gov.uk/book.”
