Roof fire

Firefighters are currently at the scene of a house fire in Bury Lodge Lane, Stansted.

On arrival, crews reported that the roof of a detached house was 100% alight.

Firefighters worked to remove parts of the roof to extinguish the fire and are currently monitoring a smouldering fire and hotspots within the roof.

A family has been rendered homeless due to the damage and an investigation will be carried out later today to establish the cause of the fire.

UPDATE 5pm

Firefighters have extinguished the fire and one crew from Stansted Fire Station will remain on scene to monitor hotspots within the roof. An investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out.

UPDATE 8:30pm 

An investigation into the cause of the fire determined that it started accidentally due to a potential electrical fault.
