Road traffic collision on A120 causes closure

Firefighters attended a road traffic collision on the A120 eastbound, between Stansted and Takeley.

Crews from Chelmsford (two), Stansted and our Urban Search and Rescue team were called yesterday at 9.23pm and found a car trapped under a lorry.

The driver of the car, who was conscious and breathing throughout, was able to get out of his vehicle and was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Crews worked with emergency services and other partners to stabilise the lorry and bring the incident to a safe conclusion. The eastbound carriageway was closed between Stansted and Takeley and a diversion is in place while the vehicle was recovered.

Station Manager Howard Midwood said: "I'd like to thank our crews who responded brilliantly and continued to support other agencies at the scene.

"I would urge drivers to avoid the area if possible and to take extra care on the roads due to the heavy rainfall we have experienced recently."

Crews left the scene at 1.30am.
