Firefighters have been working throughout the night to extinguish a large fire in Little Canfield.

Crews were called just before 1am to an outbuilding fire that had spread to two lorries.

Due to a poor water supply in the area, crews from Leaden Roding, Thaxted and Halstead were called to assist with Halstead’s Water Bowser.

The outbuilding - measuring approximately 25 metres by 10 metres - was 100% alight and firefighters worked to move other vehicles to prevent them from being affected.

Firefighters worked throughout the night to prevent the fire from spreading and to extinguish the fire in sections.

Crews will remain at the scene throughout the morning to dampen down the fire and monitor hotspots.

The outbuilding has been destroyed along with two lorries.

An investigation into the cause of the fire found it was caused accidentally.

Station Manager Steve Wintrip said: “Crews worked extremely hard to prevent this fire from spreading. The building contained a number of accelerants including approximately 1,500 litres of diesel and a large amount of bitumen which made firefighting extremely difficult as well as having a poor water supply.

"Firefighters acted quickly to move vehicles away from the fire to prevent them from being damaged and our control team were brilliant in deploying the resources to help us extinguish this fire.”
