Firefighters rescued a man who was trapped in an overturned digger.

Crews from Harlow and Loughton were called to Roydon Road, Harlow on Monday (21 February) at 3.21pm.

A digger had fallen down an embankment, overturned and left the driver trapped inside.

Firefighters used ladders and ropes to reach and stabilise the casualty, a man in his fifties, and worked with paramedics to rescue him by 4.16pm. He was conscious and breathing and was left in the care of medics.

Station Manager Richie Green said: "This was an extremely difficult rescue due to the position of the digger.

"Crews worked exceptionally hard and liaised brilliantly with our colleagues from the Ambulance Service and Helicopter Emergency Medical Service to release the casualty.

"I'd also like to thank technicians from our Urban Search and Rescue team who were on site to give advice."
