Overheated batteries cause house fire

Firefighters were called to a house fire in Eagle Close, Waltham Abbey last night after neighbours could smell smoke and heard smoke alarms going off.

Crews from Loughton and Waltham Abbey Fire Station reported that a two storey house was smoke logged with a fire contained to one room.

Firefighters extinguished the fire by 9:16pm and believe it was caused after batteries left on charge had overheated.

Watch Manager Mav Langdon from Waltham Abbey Fire Station said: “Please don’t leave batteries charging unattended, they can overheat if they are on charge longer than recommended. We also recommend if you use extension leads and cables, that you fully unwind the extension cable before using them.”
