Outbuilding fire

Firefighters are giving electrical fire safety advice after an outbuilding fire in the early hours of this morning.

Crews were called to Fir Trees, Lambourne at 1:04am.

On arrival, crews reported that an outbuilding was on fire and was starting to spread to a house.

Firefighters worked to prevent the fire spreading to the house and extinguished the fire by 1:49am.

The outbuilding was destroyed and the exterior of the house was damaged.

Crews believe the fire was caused by an electrical fault in an extension lead used outside.

Watch Manager Glenn Jackson from Loughton Fire Station said: “If you are going to supply an outbuilding with electricity or have power outside, please install the power supply using a qualified person. All leads and cables should be suitable for outside use.

“The family had a lucky escape as the fault had caused their electric in the house to trip and this prevented a house fire.

“Thanks to the crews quick for their quick work to get this fire under control and prevent it spreading throughout the house.”
