Kitchen fire

Crews have issued safety advice after a kitchen fire in Great Baddow.

Firefighters from Great Baddow and Chelmsford were called to a flat in Purbeck Court today at 9.40am after a neighbour saw smoke coming from a window.

The ground floor flat was unoccupied so firefighters forced entry.

Watch Manager Paul Speller said: "The occupant had left a grill pan on the hob which had accidentally been left on and some plastic in the grill pan was producing smoke. 

"Thankfully we were able to quickly clear the smoke so the damage was minimal.

"Keep your hobs clear when you're not cooking and if you've got an electric hob, switch it off at the wall when you're not using it to avoid any accidents."

Crews used a fan to clear the smoke by 10.10am.
