House fire
Firefighters in Basildon were alerted to a house fire in Pitsea last night (Thursday 15 June).
When fire crews arrived, they reported the house was fully alight, but thankfully no one home at the time of the fire. Firefighters quickly got the fire surrounded and prevented it from spreading to the house next door.
The fire investigation officer found the fire started in the lounge due to electrics.
Group Manager Justin Benson-Ryal said: "Firefighters worked extremely hard to stop this fire spreading to the neighbouring properties, which due to the intensity of the fire was a hard job for the crews.
"I also want to urge everyone to check they have working smoke alarms, and if you don't have any or they are not working, then call us. We will provide and fit smoke alarms completely free of charge. Call 0300 303 0088 or book online: www.essex-fire.gov.uk/book
