Get out, stay out, call 999:crews issue advice after house fire
Crews have issued safety advice after three people suffered smoke inhalation in a house fire in Loughton.
We were called to Alderton Hill today at 3.12pm and crews from Loughton and Woodford (London Fire Brigade) attended.
The property had filled with smoke after a fire had started in the first-floor airing cupboard.
Watch Manager Glenn Jackson said: “The three occupants had attempted to put the fire out themselves and unfortunately they were all suffering from the effects of breathing in the smoke.
“If there is a fire in your home, please do not try and tackle it: get out, stay out and call the fire service out.
Crews administered first aid to the casualties before leaving them in the care of the Ambulance Service.
The fire was fully extinguished by 4.07pm.
What to do if there is a fire in your home
- Don’t tackle fires yourself. Leave it to the fire service
- Keep calm and act quickly. Get everyone out as soon as possible
- Don’t waste time investigating what’s happened or rescuing valuables
- If there’s smoke, keep low where the air is clearer
- Before you open a door, check if it’s warm. If it is, don’t open it – fire is on the other side
- Call 999 as soon as you’re clear of the building. Get out, stay out, call the fire service
- A well-practised escape route plan could help save your life if a fire starts in your home. Think ahead, be prepared and keep your exits clear.
