Garage fire in Mundon

Crews were called to a property on Main Road, Mundon earlier today when a passerby noticed a fire in a garage.

Firefighters were called to a property in Mundon at 11:05am, when a fire started in a garage while the occupants were out.

On arrival, crews confirmed that there was a large fire, approximately 10m x 5m, spread across two floors of a garage building.

Firefighters worked hard in difficult conditions to extinguish the fire by 12:04pm, then stayed on-site to dampen down the surrounding area to prevent any fire re-igniting.

Fire Investigation Officer, Carl Pullen, said: “We believe the fire started accidentally as a result of an electrical fault with a fridge freezer which was kept in the garage.

“The garage has sadly been destroyed as a result of the fire, but we were pleased to see that the occupants had working smoke alarms throughout their property.

We recommend you have at least one working smoke alarm on every level of your home and that you test them at least once a month.”
