Garage fire

Firefighters were called to a garage fire in Clacton earlier today.

On arrival, crews reported that a garage attached to a property was heavily smoke logged.

Firefighters in Breathing Apparatus entered the garage to extinguish the fire which contained a small amount of petrol as well as some recycling.

Crews extinguished the fire by 2:07pm. The cause of the fire was recorded as accidental or deliberate, both possibilities.

Rubbish can act as a fuel to fire, follow our advice on storing rubbish to help prevent a fire spreading:

  • Place the refuse outside on the collection day (ensuring this is in line with local authorities)
  • Do not store refuse in corridors, stairwells or your escape route
  • Where possible, try to maintain 3m safe distance from your buildings
  • Site bonfires well away from rubbish, sheds, fences, trees and plants
  • Contact your local authority to check for any current arrangements with regards to collections and opening times/arranges of local recycling sites
