Firefighters rescue horse

Firefighters helped to rescue a large horse today after he fell in a ditch and couldn’t get out.

Crews were called to Stonewall Road in Roxwell just after 11am to help rescue a horse - weighing approximately 850 kilograms - from a ditch.

Specially trained animal rescue firefighters from Chelmsford Fire Station worked with firefighters from Leaden Roding Fire Station to make a plan to rescue the horse while waiting for a vet to assess him.

With the help of the horse’s owner and a local farmer, crews were able to help the horse back on his feet by 11:47am after moving him to a shallower part of the ditch. The horse was able to climb out of the ditch and was unharmed during the incident.

The horse was left in the care of the vet and his owner.
