Fire in unoccupied social club

Crews tackled a fire in an unoccupied social club in Harlow.

Our Control team initially sent two crews from Harlow to reports of a fire in a two-storey building in Park Lane on Saturday at 10.58pm.

Crews found the roof and first floor of the building, measuring 50 metres by 20 metres, completely alight and they were joined by crews from Epping, Loughton, Hoddesdon and Hertford. An Aerial Ladder Platform, from Chelmsford, and Incident Command Unit, from Witham, were also sent to the scene.

Station Manager Ben Turner said: "Crews worked really hard in challenging conditions to get the fire under control.

"The roof collapsed, which made extinguishing the fire even more difficult, and access was also difficult, which meant we weren't able to use the Aerial Ladder Platform.

"Crews worked tirelessly and I'd like to thank crews from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service for their assistance."

The incident was scaled down to two crews at 2.30am.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
