Embers from brazier destroy outbuilding

Firefighters were called to an outbuilding fire near Sparrowsend Hill, Newport this afternoon.

When crews arrived they reported that an outbuilding which was joined to the house was fully alight. The fire was also spreading to a shed and the neighbours garden.

Crew Manager Jamie Start said: “When we got to the incident we could see the fire was well developed and starting to spread to the house, a nearby shed and the neighbours garden.

“Crews worked together quickly to stop the fire spreading to the houses. The resident was using a brazier to burn waste, due to the windy weather today hot embers from the brazier caught the outbuilding alight.

“Please remember to take care when using braziers and incinerators to keep them away from anything that can catch fire. Don’t leave them unattended and make sure the fire is properly extinguished before you leave it. It only takes an ember to catch something alight.”
