Derelict building fire

Update 3pm:

An investigation into the cause of the fire is on-going.

Update 7:30am

Crews worked throughout the night to monitor hotspots within the roof and first floor and left the scene at 7:09am.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place today.

Update 1am:

Crews have almost extinguished the fire and the incident has been scaled down to two fire crews and an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP). Firefighters will remain at the scene to monitor hotspots. 

An investigation will take place in daylight hours to establish the cause of the fire. 


Firefighters are currently at the scene of a fire in a derelict building in Lionel Road, Canvey Island.

If you live in the area, please keep your windows and doors closed as there is some smoke coming from the scene.

Our Control Room received 16 calls to the incident and dispatched five crews.

Firefighters are currently at the scene working to extinguish a fire in the first floor and the roof space.

This is an on-going incident and we will provide updates when we can.
