Crews tackle house fire in Westcliff-on-Sea

UPDATE 8.30AM (Friday 11 August)

Crews left the scene at 1am and revisited today at 8am.

An investigation has been carried out but the exact cause of the fire could not be established.


UPDATE 11PM

Crews have extinguished the fire and are dealing with hotspots.

Group Manager Marc Diggory said: "We believe the fire started in a bedroom on the top floor of the three-storey property and crews did a fantastic job of stopping it from spreading.

"Crews are extinguishing hotspots and we hope to scale down the incident and reopen roads in the area soon; thank you to residents for your patience."

An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.


Crews are tackling a house fire in Westcliff-on-Sea this evening.

We were called to a mid-terrace property in St Helens Road at 8.56pm and crews from Southend (two), Leigh and Rayleigh Weir, along with an Aerial Ladder Platform from Grays are in attendance.

All occupants are accounted for and crews are tackling a fire in the loft space.

Please avoid the area and keep your windows and doors closed if you live nearby.

We will bring you an update as soon as it is possible.
