Crews praised after stopping roof fire from spreading
Crews have been praised after they stopped a roof fire from spreading to a house in Little Braxted.
We were called to Kelvedon Road today at 2.40pm after a neighbour saw smoke coming from the roof.
Our Control teams sent crews from Maldon, Witham and Chelmsford, including an Aerial Ladder Platform.
Station Manager Ryan Ainger said: "The neighbour saw smoke, called us and helped the occupant from the property.
"Crews made really rapid progress by tackling the fire from inside and outside the property. They got on top of the fire quickly and, thanks for their hard work, stopped the fire spreading to the house itself.
"Unfortunately, there is water and smoke damage throughout the house, but crews have been helping to retrieve personal items."
The fire was fully extinguished by 5pm. Crews will remain at the scene, removing roof tiles to make sure there are no hotspots.
Station Manager Ainger added: "I'd like to praise the occupants and neighbour who did exactly the right thing - they got out, stayed out and called 999."
