UPDATED 10AM (27 JANUARY)
Crews left the scene at 12.16am and revisited the property this morning.
The cause has been recorded as accidental.
UPDATE 8PM
Crews have extinguished the fire but will remain at the scene into the evening.
Station Manager Jason Gould, Incident Commander, said: "Crews were faced with a fire in the roof space of a timber framed detached house.
"They did a fantastic job in getting control of the fire, but it had spread to the ceiling and roof voids.
"Although the fire is out, they will be here for of a couple of hours to strip back the timber and make sure it is completely extinguished."
Crews from Chelmsford, Grays and Waltham Abbey will take over from firefighters who initially attended.
An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.
Crews are tackling a roof fire at a property off the A127, close to the Fairglen interchange.
We were called to Southend Arterial Road today at 5pm and crews from Leigh, Rayleigh Weir, Southend and Basildon (two) attended.
Our Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team also attended with a drone.
On arrival, crews found the roof space about 50% alight and the house completely smoke-logged.
We will provide updates as soon as we are able to.
