Crews extinguish roof fire
Crews extinguished a fire affecting a roof at house in Westcliff.
Firefighters from Leigh, Southend and Hawkwell were called to Elderton Road today at 12.14pm and found the roof of a terraced house alight.
They extinguished the fire by 12.55pm and remained at the scene to check for hotspots.
Watch Manager Lee Hollingsworth said: "Crews did a brilliant job to exinguish fire so quickly, limiting damage to about 20% of the roof, and stop it from spreading.
"We dealt with the incident from inside and outside of the property, making use of scaffolding being used by a roofer, in addition to our own working at height equipment."
The cause has been recorded as accidental.
