Crews extinguish garage fire in Chelmsford
Crews extinguished a garage fire in Chelmsford.
We were called to Rembrandt Grove today at 6.23pm and crews from Chelmsford (two), Great Baddow and Witham attended.
The garage was completely alight when crews arrived.
Station Manager John Warmann said: "The fire had started to affect the houses either side and crews did a fantastic job in stopping it spreading. Although the garage was destroyed, the houses only suffered slight smoke damage.
"The incident highlights the dangers of leaving electrical appliances unattended in your garage. We believe this was an electrical fire and a tumble drier and freezer were being used.
"Never overload sockets or extension leads, check plugs and cables are in a good condition, and don't use appliances unattended unless they are designed to be left on, like a freezer.
Crews extinguished the fire by 8.15pm.
