Cooking oil causes kitchen fire
Firefighters are urging residents to take care when cooking with oil after a kitchen fire in Warley early this morning.
Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in Cameron Close, Warley at 2:11am.
On arrival, crews reported that the ground floor of the property was heavily smoke logged.
Crews extinguished the fire by 2:41am and believe it was caused by cooking oil that had overheated.
Watch Manager Mark Elsey from Brentwood Fire Station said: “Please take care when cooking with oil, if it starts to smoke that means it’s getting too hot. Take it off of the heat and let it cool down.
“Never attempt to put water on an oil fire. Water and oil do not mix. If the pan does catch alight, try to take it off the heat if it is safe to do so and then get out of the house and call us.”
