Chimney fire in Chelmsford

Firefighters were called to Chelmsford at 3:17pm, when a fire started in a chimney at a property in Meon Close.

On arrival, crews reported that there was a fire within the chimney itself.

Firefighters used a stirrup pump, chimney rods and water to extinguish the fire, and confirmed it was out by 3:47pm.

Fortunately, the fire was contained to the chimney and there was no further damage to the rest of the property.

• Avoid burning resinous woods as soot builds up quickly. Suitable seasoned timber must be used in all solid fuel stoves
• Buy only suitable fuels. Using the wrong type of fuel on a liner will reduce the life of the liner considerably due to increased corrosion
