Caravan fire
A caravan was badly damaged by smoke after a fire started due to a candle being left unattended. The incident is a strong reminder of how important fire safety is, especially in small spaces like caravans.
The fire started in the kitchen/lounge area when the unattended candle fell and set the sofa on fire. Thankfully, the smoke alarms in the caravan were working and gave an early warning, allowing the occupier to get out safely.
On-site staff quickly acted to isolated the caravans gas cylinders before the fire service arrived, which helped prevent the situation from becoming even more dangerous.
Despite the fire crews’ efforts, the smoke caused so much damage that the caravan is uninhabitable. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Key safety tips:
- Don’t leave candles unattended: Candles can easily start fires. Always blow them out when you leave a room or before going to bed.
- Make sure smoke alarms work: In this case, working smoke alarms gave an early warning. Test yours regularly to keep them in good working order.
- Close doors to slow a fire: Closing doors can help stop fire and smoke from spreading, giving firefighters more time to deal with the fire.
This incident shows how small oversights with fire safety can lead to big consequences. Taking simple steps like using candles carefully and keeping smoke alarms in good condition can reduce risks and save lives.
