Candle fire
Firefighters are giving candle safety advice after a candle fire in Wickford earlier today.
Crews were called to Runwell Road, Wickford at 4:38pm.
On arrival, firefighters reported that a fire was smouldering in a bedroom after a candle had caught clothing and bedding alight.
The residents had been in the room at the time and acted quickly to dial 999.
Crews extinguished the fire by 5pm.
The fire and smoke damage was contained to the bedroom.
Watch Manager Andy Smith from Wickford Fire Station said: “If you are using candles, please take care to keep candles well away from anything they can catch alight like bedding, curtains etc and always blow them out when you need to leave the room.”
